Mathias & Sewell Cosy Up to Three Sisters???

By • West End
There seems to have been another change of direction in Natural Nylon's planned production of Chekhov's The Three Sisters, in a new version adapted by Christopher Hampton. Welsh director Sean Mathias, busy of late on Broadway, was originally slated to direct, but rumours this spring had it that he was being replaced by former Royal Court artistic director and Billy Elliott star Stephen Daldry. Now, however, Mathias is reportedly back on board and bringing some cast members with him. Kate (daughter of Richard) Burton, who was Tony-nominated this year for her role in Mathias' New York revival of The Elephant Man, is likely to feature along with Rufus Sewell, the British screen star whose stage credits have included Luther and Arcadia at the National and Macbeth in the West End. The Three Sisters is expected to open at the Young Vic next spring. Meanwhile, Mathias' acclaimed Broadway revival of Strindberg's The Dance of Death, led by Ian McKellen, has been mooted for a West End transfer.
