American actor Woody Harrelson is currently rehearsing a new play On an Average Day (See News 28 June). He plays Robert - a man on trial for a bizarre traffic incident. Art imitating life perhaps as Harrelson himself, according to press reports, has narrowly escaped charges of causing criminal damage after wrecking a taxicab in London's West End. After jumping out of the taxi, 14 police officers are reported to have followed him as he ran from the scene. He was caught and arrested but the driver later decided not to press charges after receiving £500 as compensation. Harrelson made his name in the US Comedy Cheers as the dim-witted bartender 'Woody Boyd', for which he won an Emmy Award. He will play alongside Sex and the City's Kyle MacLachlan in On an Average Day - his West End debut.
