Susan Stroman's celebrated "dance play", Contact, may be headed for the West End next spring. The award-winning Broadway production has been playing at New York's Vivian Beaumont Theatre since March 2000, and a separate production is currently touring the States to the end of 2002. Devised by Stroman (who also choreographs and directs) and James Weidman, Contact presents three stories told through dance and dialogue as the characters struggle to connect with one another. Stroman is very hot at the moment. Having won the Best Choreography Tony last year for Contact, she scooped that and the Best Director of a Musical Tony this year for mega-hit The Producers, which swept the boards with 12 Tonys in all. On these shores, Stroman was also the choreographic brains behind the National's 1998 production of Oklahoma, which is now making its way to Broadway.
