Rufus Sewell is hotly tipped for a return to the stage this October in a National Theatre production of John Osborne's Luther. In the epic play, Sewell is expected to assume the role of controversial Reformation leader Martin Luther (1483-1546). A forceful and driven character, Luther divided Christianity into two separate churches during his reforms. Director and playwright Peter Gill is believed to be overseeing the project. Sewell's latest film part is in the medieval action comedy A Knight's Tale with Heath Ledger and James Purefoy. He is also currently working on Christian Duguay's movie the eXtremists, due for release next year.
