Rumours regarding a stage musical to be based on the life of former Prime Minister John Major have turned out to be a hoax. Details of the alleged show, entitled Minor to Major, were created by ITV's spoof entertainment show Gatecrasher. The show's producers clearly intended to expose copycat journalism by their stunt, which nonetheless had a reasonable ring of plausibility to it. The story went into circulation via the daily papers, suggesting that songs such as The Brixton Rap and Into the Blue would be included in the project. Furthermore it was reported that the company behind the venture, Brixton Island, were testing the water by sending out promotional CDs to interest potential backers. The musical's story was depicted as portraying Major's rise from his Brixton boyhood to final departure from 10 Downing Street in 1997.
