As one window closes, another opens - at least for Ben Elton. His first musical outing, The Beautiful Game with Andrew Lloyd Webber, may be finishing its aborted run at the Cambridge Theatre at the end of the summer but, all going to plan, he'll soon have new representation in the West End, perhaps by the end of the year. We Will Rock You, his musical collaboration with rock supergroup Queen, is expected to open at the Dominion Theatre by January at the latest, following the closure of Notre Dame de Paris. Similar to the current blockbuster, Mamma Mia, which features an Abba score, We Will Rock You will incorporate many Queen hits, although the plot won't be based on the band nor will any band members appear. The story, still under wraps, is reportedly based on an original idea by Elton who has written the book for the musical.
