New cast members announced for Dirty Dancing tour

The producers of Dirty Dancing have announced new casting for the next phase of the screen-to-stage musical’s ongoing national tour, now booking through to the summer of 2013.

From 4 July, American actress Jill Winternitz will star as idealistic ‘Baby Houseman’, the role taken by Jennifer Grey in the film, who discovers love and life in the summer she will never forget.

Nicky Griffiths will take on the role of Penny Johnson, having been a member of the Dirty Dancing touring company since the show opened in Bristol.

Paul-Michael Jones will continue to star as Johnny Castle, the role made famous around the world by Patrick Swayze in the 1987 cult movie.

Dirty Dancing broke box office records when it
opened at the West End’s Aldwych Theatre in 2006, with advanced ticket sales of over £15
million. It closed at the Aldwych on 9 July 2011, commencing its national tour in September.

Dirty Dancing is currently at the Grand Theatre in Leeds (until 23 June). The new company will have their first performance at the Birmingham Hippodrome, with a press night on 10 July.
