Sher Breaks More Glass at Tricycle & Vaudeville

The Tricycle Theatre’s acclaimed 2010 production of Arthur Miller’s Broken Glass will be revived this summer, returning to its Kilburn home from 10 August to 10 September 2011, before, as previously tipped, transferring to the West End’s Vaudeville Theatre for a limited season from 16 September to 10 December 2011 (previews from 14 September).

Antony Sher will reprise his lead performance as Phillip Gellburg, a Jewish man in New York City in 1938, whose wife Sylvia is so affected by Kristallnacht (night of the broken glass) in Nazi Germany that she becomes temporarily paralysed and seeks treatment from a psychiatrist.

The part of Sylvia, previously played by Lucy Cohu, will now be taken by Tara Fitzgerald. Further casting – including the part of the doctor, for which Nigel Lindsay (now in the West End in Shrek) won this year’s Whatsonstage.com Award for Best Supporting Actor – has yet to be announced.

The production is directed by Iqbal Khan and designed by Mike Britton. It’s presented in the West End by PW Productions and Tricycle London Productions.

Broken Glass premiered at the National Theatre in 1994, before transferring to the West End and winning the Olivier for Best Play. Miller’s many other plays include classics Death of a Salesman, A View from the Bridge, All My Sons and The Crucible.

Currently at the Vaudeville Theatre, renowned American troupe The Flying Karamazov Brothers are due to run from 20 June to 10 September 2011 (previews from 9 June).
