Headlong Site-Specific Decade Marks 9/11 at Docks
As previously tipped, Rupert Goold’s Headlong Theatre will mark the tenth anniversary of 9/11 with a site-specific piece entitled Decade, which is now confirmed to run from 8 September to 15 October 2011 (previews from 1 September) in a disused office building in St Katharine Docks, a marina just west of the Tower of London.
The “immersive theatrical experience” is conceived and directed by Rupert Goold, artistic director of Headlong, with Robert Icke. It’s being written by a “team of major writers and thinkers”. That team – as well as cast – are still to be officially announced.
Decade aims to provide an “imaginative investigation into the legacy of 9/11” that will take audience members from the River Thames to Manhattan in exploring the “first global event in the age of the internet”, a day when “everyone remembers where they were when they heard the news”.
Decade is designed by Miriam Buether and choreographed by Scott Ambler, with lighting by Malcolm Rippeth and sound and composition by Adam Cork. It’s presented by Headlong in association with Chichester Festival Theatre.
Aptly, St Katharine Docks was once home to the London World Trade Centre, designed by Richard Rogers.
