Alfie Boe ‘Bored Stiff’ When He Watches Opera???

Alfie Boe, one of the country’s most popular tenors and soon to be star of the West End’s Les Miserables has surprised opera fans during an interview with Kirsty Young on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs by admitting he finds himself “bored stiff” when attending the opera. “I just go there and I’m very uncomfortable,” says Boe. “I just feel like it’s not my world. When I’m up there doing it, that’s my world. That’s what I really love to do. But sitting in the audience… I’m really just bored stiff.” Although you might not catch him in the stalls at the Coliseum, Boe did add he prefers listening to opera at home where he can “really appreciate the old classic singers”.

Lancashire-born Boe joins the cast of Les Miserables as Jean Valjean full time from 23 June 2011, although made an appearance in the show last night (6 June 2011) surprising theatregoers at the Queen’s Theatre. Boe stars in the new cast alongside Caroline Sheen, Alexia Khadime, Craig Mather, Katy Secome, Liame Tamne, Lisa-Anne Wood, Matt Lucas and Hadley Fraser.
