Edinburgh Fringe Unveils Official Poster for 2010
The Edinburgh Fringe has launched this year’s official poster, which was selected from its annual schools poster competition.
The competition, which was launched in 1980, sees pupils from Shetland to Selkirk entering artwork each year in the hope of having their design selected.
The winning entry is printed and thousands of copies are sold to festival-goers and visitors as souvenirs. Over the past 30 years the competition has inspired more than 100,000 school children from across Scotland to create an image encapsulating their interpretation of the world’s largest arts festival.
Edinburgh Festival Fringe chief executive Kath Mainland said: “The image that Morven created is vibrant, colourful and full of energy – everything that the Fringe is. She has done a great job and I’m sure her poster will be very popular with Festival-goers.
“It was encouraging to see such a high number of entrants this year, more than two and a half thousand from across Scotland, which shows a thriving enthusiasm for art amongst Scottish youngsters. The standard was extremely high so well done to all those who entered. Thanks also go to the teachers and pupils for all time and effort they put into entering the competition, Mackie’s of Scotland for helping to make this whole competition possible and the Museum of Children for hosting the exhibition.”
