Mariah Carey Reconsiders West End Debut???

There are new rumours that pop diva Mariah Carey will be making her West End debut – and in a play rather than a musical, as might be expected. Back in 2003, she was reportedly signed up to appear in a revival of Terence Rattigan‘s play, The Sleeping Prince, which later became the 1957 film The Prince and the Showgirl, starring Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe in the showgirl role that Carey was due to tackle on stage (See The Goss, 31 Oct 2003).

It could be that it’s this project that’s being resurrected. In any case, according to new media reports today, Carey has been having meetings with a top West End producer, who has offered her a £15,000-a-week contract to star in a play that would open in spring 2010.

A “source” told the Mirror newspaper today: “Mariah’s done a bit of acting in her time but nothing on this scale. She was hugely flattered to have been asked and is determined to nail the part… she is pretty confident in her own abilities. And although there’s been talk of musicals, Mariah has always wanted to star in a play so this really is a dream come true.”
