While no new shows have been announced for the Theatre Royal Drury Lane after The Producers, it has been previously tipped that the next major production could be The Lord of the Rings or Gone With the Wind (See The Goss, 8 May 2006). However, we now hear that wherever the stage version of the JRR Tolkien trilogy settles down in the West End, it won’t now do so before early summer of 2007. In the meantime, a new production of Over Here, Robert B Sherman’s Broadway musical about the home front and entertaining the troops during World War II, may be in the frame for a limited ten-week season to help fill any gap in the schedule between The Producers and the next big production at the 2,200-seat Drury Lane. Over Here premiered in 1974 at New York’s Schubert Theater, where it ran for 341 performances.
