With Our House closing at the Cambridge Theatre in August (See News, 19 Jun 2003), speculation is intensifying that the National's current hit Jerry Springer - The Opera will make its West End home there come the autumn. Following earlier development at Battersea Arts Centre and Edinburgh, the trailer trash musical tragedy made its world premiere on 29 April 2003 at the NT Lyttelton, where it's now booking to the end of September. The show has had rave reviews - from critics and audiences - and a string of West End and Broadway houses have been beckoning (See The Goss, 23 May 2003). In addition to the Cambridge, the Piccadilly Theatre - where Ragtime closed last week - has also been strongly mooted. However, both venues are also possibilities for Rob Buddy Bettinson's musical stage adaptation of Elvis Presley flick Jailhouse Rock (See The Goss, 12 Jun 2003). Which will ultimately go where? Perhaps they'll toss a coin to decide.
