Acclaimed children's company Chicken Shed Theatre is aiming to transfer its recent production of Alice on the Underground to the West End. The new musical, written and directed by Chris Bond, updates Lewis Carroll's classic fairy tale to 21st-century London. Escaping her dysfunctional family life on a council estate, teenaged Alice follows the break-dancing white rabbit on a surreal underworld tour of the Underground. Billed as a "hard-hitting" show that, despite its under-aged label, deals with drugs, homelessness and prostitution, Alice on the Underground was a hit earlier this summer at the Chicken Shed's home base in Southgate, north London.
