British screen actress Minnie Driver plans to star in a Broadway revival of William Gibson's 1959 play, The Miracle Worker, based on the real life of Helen Keller. Driver will play the partially-sighted tutor, Anne Sullivan, who fought hard to teach the deaf, blind and mute Keller a way to communicate. The 1962 Hollywood film of The Miracle Worker earned Anne Bancroft a Best Actress Oscar for her role as Sullivan while Patty Duke, who played Keller, won that year’s Best Supporting Actress Oscar. The new stage production is likely to open in New York this autumn and is expected to transfer to London's West End in 2003. Driver is internationally famous for her many starring roles in films such as Good Will Hunting, Circle of Friends and Grosse Pointe Blank.
