The 1980s big screen hit Dirty Dancing is reportedly undergoing a stage adaptation. Eleanor Bergstein, who scripted the film’s screenplay, is thought to be behind the project, which may begin rehearsals later this summer. Dirty Dancing the movie starred Patrick Swayze in a tale of youthful rebellion set in 1960s America. The musical version is expected to come under the handling of Dodger Theatricals, a production partnership which grew out of New York’s Chelsea Theater Center in 1978. Among the company’s many Broadway successes have been Footloose, Into the Woods and 42nd Street. They are also currently joint producers of The King and I at London’s Palladium, and have ongoing relations with both the Royal Court and Almeida groups.
