Amanda Barrie, whose long-running Coronation Street character Alma was 'killed off' recently, is set for a return to the stage. Barrie, who is known to be keen on resurrecting her theatrical career, is tipped to be appearing as the Wicked Queen in a production of Snow White at Bradford's Alhambra in December. Comedian Billy Pearce, winner of numerous entertainment awards, is also rumoured to be leading the cast. Although she was born Shirley Broadbent (named after Shirley Temple), the actress changed her name to Amanda Barrie before her 1961 West End debut in Babes in the Wood. Barrie is also famous for her lead role as sexy Cleopatra in the Carry on Cleo film, and her numerous stage credits include Cabaret, Absurd Person Singular and Stepping Out.
