Alan Bates & Son for West End Dorian???

By • West End
Alan Bates could well be returning to the West End alongside his son Benedick Bates. The two are set to star in a new stage version of Oscar Wilde's story of Dorian Gray, which plays at the Theatre Royal, Windsor from 17 July. Trevor Baxter is expected to direct the production, and although a West End venue has yet to be confirmed, the show is virtually confirmed as using Windsor (and possibly Guildford) for the pre-London warm-up. With Benedick appearing as Dorian, the play will receive an unusual twist with the casting of his father as Lord Henry Wooton. It's Wooton, after all, who acts as a sensual educator to the impressionable and vain Dorian. Benedick recently appeared in the Lyric's presentation of Noel Coward's Semi Monde.
