Unexpected Man Transfers to West End

By • West End
Following a sell-out, four-week premiere run at the Barbican s Pit in April/May, the RSC production of Yasmina Reza s The Unexpected Man will transfer to the Duchess Theatre for a limited season from Monday 15 June 1998. Award-winning actors Eileen Atkins and Michael Gambon are to continue in their roles.

The two-hander tells the story of middle-aged, embittered novelist Paul and his life-long fan Martha who meet on a train journey from Paris to Frankfurt. The characters do not speak to one another for the majority of the play, but their thoughts about each other and life in general are revealed through monologue.

The Unexpected Man reunites the creative team of smash West End comedy Art - playwright Reza, director Matthew Warchus, translator Christopher Hampton and designer Mark Thompson. Lighting is by Hugh Vanstone and music by Gary Yershon.
