Tarry Flynn Plays RNT, 13 Performances Only

By • West End
Following its acclaimed run at Dublin s Abbey Theatre, the award-winning production of Tarry Flynn will transfer to the RNT s Lyttelton Theatre for 13 performances only from 20 August (preview 19 August). Tarry Flynn is based on the novel by Patrick Kavanah, adapted and directed by Conall Morrison.

Set in the border countryside of Ireland in the 1930s, Tarry Flynn is the story of a young farmer poet and his quest for big fields, young women and the meaning of life. Kavanagh s caustic coming of age novel, first published in 1948, recreates the comedy of day to day life in a small farming community. Morrison s adaptation brings a contemporary approach to this classic work of Irish fiction with the use of visual and physical images, movement and dance.

Morrison, who is currently redirecting Martin Guerre for Cameron Mackintosh, won a Sunday Indendent / Spirit of Life Award for Tarry Flynn. His previous work inlcudes Conquest of the South Pole, Measure for Measure, The Marlboro Man and Emma. His playwriting credits include Green, Orande and Pink, Rough Justice and Hard to Believe.

James Kennedy, who plays the title role in Tarry Flynn, was last seen at the Abbey Theatre in The Importance of Being Earnest. Other credits include: Shopping and F***ing (Royal Court), Something About Us (Lyric Studio) and The Master Builder (Riverside Studio) amongst others.

The cast also includes Pauline Flanagan, Maire Ni Ghrainne and Niall O Brien. Design is by Francis O Connor with lighting by Nick McCall and choreography by David Bolger.
