Stephen Unwin directs Ghosts for ETT’s 21st anniversary
Unwin, who steps down as artistic director of the Rose next year, will direct the production to mark ETT’s 21st anniversary.
ETT’s director Rachel Tackley said: “As the company gears up to celebrate its 21st Birthday in
2014, I can literally think of no better director to celebrate with us
than our founder, Stephen Unwin. Whilst English Touring Theatre, Stephen
and Ibsen’s classic play are no strangers, this promises to be one of
our most exciting new productions and I’m thrilled we can share it
across the country.”
Unwin will use his own translation, with design by Simon Higlett
and lighting design by Paul Pyant. According to press material, “They will take inspiration from an
original design by the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, famous for his
painting ‘The Scream’. This will be the first time the designs have been
used since the 1906 production.”
Ghosts will preview at the Rose Theatre Kingston, from the 19
September 2013, before touring to Salisbury, Oxford,
Guildford, York, Watford and Malvern.
Unwin, who led ETT for 15 years before joining the Rose, commented, “I”m thrilled to be returning
to English Touring Theatre 20 years after founding this company. I am a
self-confessed Ibsen fanatic and this production of Ghosts is the best
way of celebrating 20 years of English Touring Theatre.”
Tickets are currently on sale for the Rose Theatre Kingston run. Casting is still to be announced.
