Tonight we're taking over 200 theatregoers to see War Horse at the West End's New London Theatre. The play, which hardly needs an introduction, is adapted from Michael Morpurgo's novel and premiered at the NT Olivier in October 2007, returning for a second run the following year and transferring to the New London in April 2009. Now seen by over three million people worldwide, the play tells the story of Albert and his beloved horse, who, at the outbreak of World War One, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. It's directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, designed by Rae Smith, with puppet direction, design and fabrication by Basil Jones and Adrian Kohler for Handspring Puppet Company, lighting by Paule Constable, and movement and horse choreography by Toby Sedgwick. After the performance we'll be joined by cast members including Sion Daniel Young (Albert) and Alex Avery (Captain Nicholls) to discuss the secrets of the show and its galloping success.
