Greenberg’s American Plan transfers to St James Theatre in July

Theatre Royal Bath’s production of Richard Greenberg‘s The American Plan is transferring to the St James Theatre in July.

The play, which received its UK premiere earlier this year in the Ustinov Studio as part of the American Season 2013, takes place against a backdrop of the Catskill Mountains during a 1960s summer.

Lili Adler, the beautiful, fragile daughter of a wealthy German-Jewish refugee, meets Nick Lockridge, a handsome young stranger, and finds herself falling in love. But when her overbearing mother learns of their relationship, she proceeds to poison the young man’s affection and Lili’s one chance to escape her mother’s control looks like being lost forever.

Directed by David Grindley, The American Plan stars Diana Quick as Eva. The rest of the cast comprises Luke Allen-Gale as Nick, Emily Taaffe as Lili, Dona Croll as Olivia and Mark Edel-Hunt as Gil.

Diana Quick‘s recent theatre credits include Maria Callas in Aristos, Single Spies, the title role in Mother Courage and Her Children directed by Stephen Unwin and Mrs Clandon in Sir Peter Hall’s West End production of You Never Can Tell. Her other stage credits include Ghosts (English Touring Theatre), Be My Baby (Soho Theatre) and Mother Teresa is Dead (Royal Court). Her TV credits include Brideshead Revisited, Case Histories, George Gently and Law & Order UK.

Featuring design by Jonathan Fensom, with lighting by Jason Taylor and sound by Gregory Clarke, The American Plan runs at the St James Theatre from 8 July to 10 August 2013 (previews from 2 July).
