Twitter’s @WestEndProducer stages talent show at Lyric

The mysterious figure behind popular Twitter account @westendproducer will cross from the virtual to the real world when his show #searchforatwitterstar Live! is staged in the West End.

The show, which will take place on 9 July 2012 at the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, is the culmination of an online talent competition being run by the elusive impresario.

According to press material: “With hundreds of entries to the talent search via Youtube and Twitter, ten finalists – five male and five female – will battle it out in a live final to become a potential leading lady and leading man of the West End.”

Producer Tony Green, who is staging the show on behalf of @Westendproducer, said: “I was so impressed with some of the talent coming through #searchforatwitterstar, and feeling our industry is poorly represented by the current run of TV talent shows, I decided it was time to give our ‘stagey’ wannabes the opportunity to show us what they have.”

In what’s being billed as a “world first”, every one of the 900 seats in the Lyric will be a ‘Tweet seat’, with the audience encouraged to Tweet their feedback on the contestants’ performances throughout the evening. The audience will then vote for the winning Leading Lady and Leading Man by voting for their favourite via Twitter.

The creative team behind the recent Children of Eden gala concert at the Prince of Wales will reunite for #searchforatwitterstar: Director Drew Baker, musical supervisor James Draisey and production designer Ben M Rogers.
