Not quite the End of the Rainbow for Judy?

London theatregoers may have another chance to catch End of the Rainbow. The play, about the last days of Judy Garland, is a hit on Broadway, where earlier this month it was nominated for three Tony Awards, including Best Actress for Tracie Bennett for her full-throttle performance as Garland. Its open-ended run at New York’s Belasco Theater is currently booking until 2 September 2012. Next spring, Bennett will take to the road in a US tour that opens in Los Angeles in March. There’s a possibility that the play could return to London – though not necessarily with Bennett – after that. Peter Quilter‘s play has already had an extended season at the West End’s Trafalgar Studios 1, where it opened in November 2010, and toured the UK. But on the back of its Tony success, producers may bank on more box office potential back home. End of the Rainbow is set during Judy Garland’s 1968 attempted comeback in London and depicts her battle with a tornado of drugs and alcohol as she undertakes an exhausting series of concerts.
