Theatregoers Meet Wicked Stars at WOS Outing

Last night (10 May 2011), 230 theatregoers joined us at the Apollo Victoria Theatre for the Whatsonstage.com Outing to the smash-hit musical  Wicked! The show, which opened in London in 2006, continues to be one of the hottest tickets on the West End, winning eight Whatsonstage.com Awards including Best West End Show in both 2010 and 2011! With so much hype and excitement, expectations were certainly high and the show did not disappoint in the least!

Wicked retells the tale of The Wizard of Oz from the perspective of the highly misunderstood Elphaba and the unlikely friendship she forms with the very popular, very blonde, Glinda. The story follows the two girls on their adventures through Oz as they grow older and choose different paths.

Rachel Tucker, winner of the Whatsonstage.com Award for Best Take Over in a Role, and Louise Dearman lead the cast as Elphaba and Glinda, and together they are simply unstoppable! Their chemistry is both hilarious and heartbreaking, playing off one another with ease. Louise sparkles with her fabulous and excited rendition of “Popular”, while Rachel brought the house down with the always powerful “Defying Gravity”. The two are supported by a wonderful cast, including Mark Evan‘s perfectly suave Fiyero and Zoe Rainey‘s sympathetic Nessarose. From the dazzling set to the show-stopping numbers, Wicked left Whatsonstage.com theatregoers and staff alike captivated from start to finish.

Following the performance, we were lucky enough to be joined by the cast for an informal meet and greet! Rachel Tucker, Louise Dearman(and her adorable dog!), Mark Evans, Julie Legrand, and Zoe Rainey all made an appearance, chatting easily with theatreogers about a wide range of topics, including what exactly Elphaba really eats whens she splits her lunch with Dr. Dillamond (it’s a nutrigrain bar in case you were wondering) and happily signing autographs and posing for pictures.

Please do feel free to email your comments and thoughts about the play, as well as any photos you have of the event and the evening through to feedback@whatsonstage.com, we love to hear from you.
