Popular! Cabaret & Pirate Jenny Come to Landor

Two-time Olivier award-winning actress Jenny Galloway will reprise her solo show Pirate Jenny for one night only at the Landor Theatre on 29 May 2011.

The show, which Galloway has performed at many venues over the years in both London and New York, is billed as an “exploration of identity using the spoken word along with the music of Kurt Weill, Noel Coward and the English Music Hall”.

Galloway has extensive West End credits including Show Boat, Mary Poppins, My One and Only, Les Miserables, Oliver!, Mamma Mia! and After the Dance. Recently, she reprised her role as Madame Thénardier in Les Miserables for the show’s 25th anniversary concert at the O2 Arena.

Later this year she will star alongside Jude Law and Ruth Wilson in Rob Ashford’s production of Eugene O’Neill’s Anna Christie, which runs at the Donmar Warehouse from 9 August to 8 October 2011 (previews from 4 August).

Prior to Galloway’s one-night performance, John-Webb Carter and Chris Macklin will present a week of musical theatre cabaret filled with songs that, due to their popularity or definitive star-studded renditions, no West End singer would dare take into an audition room.

Popular!, which takes the final week of the cancelled five-week season of Robert Longden and Hereward Kaye’s cult musical Moby Dick, will run from 24 to 28 May with a cast of Michael Baxter (Les Miserables on tour), Adam Bayjou (The Full Monty), Poppy Carter (The Children’s Hour) and Ashleigh Jones (The Full Monty).

The cast will be joined by a series of guest performers including Helena Blackman (How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, South Pacific), on 24 May Sam Harrison (Avenue Q, Salad Days, Crazy for You) on 25 May, Lucy May Barker (Spring Awakening, Earthquakes in London) on 26 May, Anton Stephans (Porgy and Bess, Starlight Express) on 27 May, and Over the Rainbow‘s Jessica Robinson on 28 May.

Popular! is produced for Three Card Cabaret by John-Webb Carter and Chris Macklin who is also musical director.

Currently playing at the Landor Hello, Jerry, a musical revue celebrating Broadway composer and lyricist Jerry Herman, completes its run tomorrow (21 May 2011).
