Photos: First Peek at London Matilda‘s New Look

The Royal Shakespeare Company have released a new poster image for Matilda, which it was announced today (19 May 2011) will transfer to London’s Cambridge Theatre from 22 November 2011 (previews from 18 October).

The new poster image does away with the Quentin Blake’s illustration which had been used for the musical’s Stratford run, replaced instead by a silhouette of the musical’s title character standing on a swing.

Tickets for the RSC’s musical Matilda, which has been adapted from Roald Dahl’s novel by Tim Minchin and Dennis Kelly, go on sale at 9am tomorrow (20 May 2011) to members of the RSC with general sale starting at the same time on Saturday (21 May 2011).

Many of the RSC’s original company will reprise their Stratford roles in London, including Lauren Ward as Miss Honey, Bertie Carvel as Miss Trunchbull, Josie Walker as Mrs Wormwood and Paul Kaye as Mr Wormwood.

The musical played a sell-out Christmas season from 9 December 2010 (previews from 9 November) to 30 January 2011 at the RSC’s temporary Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.

The musical is directed by Matthew Warcus with design by Rob Howell, choreography by Peter Darling, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, musical supervision and orchestration by Christopher Nightingale and sound by Simon Baker. Special effects and illusions are by Paul Kieve.

Matilda is produced in the West End by the Royal Shakespeare Company with Andre Ptaszynski as executive producer.
