Book of Mormon Converts West End Next Year???

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone could bring their acerbic new musical The Book of Mormon – and potentially 14 Tony Awards – to the West End “sometime next year”. The Times reports producer Sonia Friedman is behind bringing the show to London, going on to say discussions have been taking place this week as to which West End theatre the musical will call home. The show, which is co-directed by Trey Parker and Casey Nicholaw, who also serves as the production’s choreographer, is co-written by Parker, Stone, and Avenue Q‘s Robert Lopez. Despite its unlikely subject matter – two Mormon missionaries dispatched to convert an African village – and provocative approach the musical opened to rave reviews on Broadway and swept the board at this year’s Tony nominations. Whether the show can beat The Producers‘ 2001 record haul of 12 awards remains to be seen with the Tonys being presented on 12 June 2011.
