The Ladykillers Set For Stage Adaptation???

The Ladykillers could be set for yet another resurgence – this time in a theatrical sense. Alexander Mackendrick’s classic comedy was remade in 2004 by the Coen brothers and now could be heading for the stage in a new adaptation.

The show is rumoured to be in the capable hands of producers Rupert Lord and Edward Snape, the latter of whom has worked on another film-turned-show The 39 Steps to worldwide success.

Douglas Hodge – who played Albin in La Cage aux Folles at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2008 – could be set to lead the group of thieves who plot to rob a casino. The group rent a room in an old woman’s house and plan to kill her when she discovers their plan; but this isn’t as simple as it seems.

The show has seen the stage once before, on a national tour in 1999 (See News 10 June 1999); but this completely new adaptation hopes to go on to even bigger things; set to start a national tour before the end of the year, with the hope to transfer to the West End before long.
