German Audiences Not Having a Ball???

By • West End
German audiences have walked out of the theatre in disgust at a play spoofing the last weeks of Adolf Hitler’s leadership, during which he decides the only way to win back his dignity is by organising a football tournament which he has rigged so that Germany will win. According to the Daily Telegraph, My Ball – A German Dream - which is playing in Hamburg directed by Swiss-Swedish director Erik Gedeon - has been condemned by critics and audiences as being in bad taste and badly timed. In his defense, Gedeon says that the play is a satire of the nation’s hopes for an economic revival based on football success and, given that Germany is hosting the World Cup next month, he believes it comes at exactly the right time.
