One of Shaw’s “Plays Pleasant” (which also included Arms and the Man), in Candida, the Reverend James Morrell has the perfect wife, the perfect family and the perfect home. But when a young poet falls passionately in love with his beautiful Candida, Morrell’s idealistic world is turned upside down.
The new Oxford Stage Company production marks the 100th anniversary of Candida’s first public performance. Actor-director Christopher Luscombe (Star Quality, Home and Beauty and Fascinating Aida’s One Last Flutter in the West End) directs Serena Evans (Life x 3, Things We Do for Love and TV’s The Thin Blue Line) as Candida.
The cast also includes Andrew Havill (as the Reverend), Barry Stanton, Hattie Ladbury, Richard Glaves and Jacob Harders. Jonathan Fensom designs. Following Exeter, the production continues to Eastbourne, Ipswich, Guildford, Oxford, Poole, Richmond and York.
