According to press reports, American screen and now stage star Gwyneth Paltrow is all set to purchase her first London home. The Oscar-winning actress has bid £1.25 million to buy the two-bedroom flat just off King's Road where she's been staying and paying £10,000 a month in rent for the past two months during rehearsals and the run to date of Proof, her West End debut, at the Donmar Warehouse. The 1,250 sq ft garden flat - furnished in chrome and pine with deep-pile cream carpets - covers two floors joined by a spiral staircase. Earlier this year, Paltrow said she found Hollywood "too macho" and wanted to move permanently to a European city. "Hollywood is a completely male-dominated world," she said. "I want to leave it. At the moment, there is definitely a lack of interesting female roles and nothing that I would really like to undertake." Let's hope she's found theatre a more satisfying outlet and, now that she's putting down roots, perhaps we'll be seeing more of Gwynnie on the boards post-Proof.
