LES MISERABLES, currently London and Broadway's longest running musical, is launching a special school edition of the show this autumn. The legendary show, now in its 17th year, has been specially adapted to meet the needs of young performers. Abridged to a running time of just over two hours, this author-approved edition retains the integrity of the original show. Originally adapted from Victor Hugo's timeless novel, "LES MISERABLES" - School Edition will introduce a new generation to the inspirational story that has been seen and read by millions worldwide. This School Edition is being specifically launched this year to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of Victor Hugo's birthday.

The production will receive its UK premiere on 14 October as part of the International Festival of Musical Theatre in Cardiff, when it will be performed by Stanwell School at the 500-seat venue in the school grounds. The School Edition will then be generally available for performance from 4 November. Any school can apply to stage this edition with the p rovisos that no performer can be older than 18 years old and that the performance must take place on school premises.

Cameron Mackintosh says of the School Edition, "The future of the theatre is all about developing and nurturing a passion for musicals and plays among the young. This is where the new audiences will come from. And I believe "LES MISERABLES", which tells a story of so many committed, impassioned young people, should provide a thrilling theatrical learning experience for teenagers across the UK."

Applications for licenses to perform the School Edition can be made to the LES MISERABLES - School Edition Hotline 020 7927 7304. Website
