Liza (on an E) dishes the dirt on Minnelli at Vaudeville, 14 May

Australian musical star and impersonator Trevor Ashley will make his West End debut next month, channelling the iconic Liza Minnelli in Liza (on an E), which will run for six performances only from 14 to 18 May 2013.

According to press material, in the show, ‘Liza’ will “dish the dirt on her extraordinary life like you’ve never seen her before”, covering everything “from her marriage to Australia’s song-and-dance darling, Peter Allen, to her notorious pill-popping and ubiquitous showbiz family”, including mother Judy Garland. Ashley will also sing various Minnelli standards, accompanied by a live onstage band.

Commenting on his first performances in London, Trevor says: “I am so completely and utterly thrilled to be coming to make my debut in the West End. This show and its music are such a genuine thrill to perform, and I can’t wait to tear up the Vaudeville, surely one of the most beautiful theatres in London. As Liza herself would say, ‘It’s gonna be TCHERRIFFFIC!'”

In his native Australia, Ashley created the role of Miss Understanding in the original Australian cast of Priscilla Queen of the Desert – The Musical. His other credits, in Melbourne and Sydney, include Edna Turnblad in Hairspray, Franz Liebkind in The Producers and Jerry Springer – The Opera.

As a solo artist, Ashley has performed in New York, London, Asia and Australia, in shows as both himself and a dazzling array of characters. Liza (on an E) has previously sold out two seasons in Sydney, and toured to Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth. He also created a bespoke piece for Sydney Opera House entitled I’m Every Woman, in which he channeled 12 famous females.

Liza (on an E) is written by Trevor Ashley and Dean Bryant, with direction by Dean Bryant. It’s produced by Neil Eckersley for Speckulation Entertainment. The next production scheduled at the Vaudeville is the West End return of Whatsonstage.com Award-winning comedy The Ladykillers, which reopens on 29 June 2013.
