Photos: Royal Mail Unveil Stamps for RSC’s 50th

Following the success of its recent stamps celebrating British Musicals, the Royal Mail has now launched a set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The collection features both production images and quotes from the plays. Talking about the collection, RSC artistic director Michael Boyd said representing the “extraordinary range” of work the RSC has staged had been an almost “impossible job” and with half a century of monumental actors to choose from who can blame him.

The commemorative stamps show the likes of actors David Tennant, Antony Sher and Ian McKellen in famous RSC productions of Hamlet, Henry VI, King Lear and Romeo and Juliet. Press the “next” button to see all of the stamps, fully captioned, below.

Highlights in the RSC’s 50th anniversary season include director Rupert Goold and actor Patrick Stewart reunited for The Merchant of Venice and a review of “50 years of RSC commissions”.
