Weeks Is Chichester Doolittle, Evans Leads 42nd

Honeysuckle Weeks will play flower girl Eliza Doolittle in the forthcoming Chichester revival of Pygmalion, opposite Rupert Everett as Henry Higgins (See News, 18 February 2010).

Weeks, star of ITV series Foyle’s War, joins a cast that includes: Susie Blake (Mrs Pearce), Phil Davis (Alfred Doolittle), Peter Eyre (Colonel Pickering), Peter Sandys-Clarke (Freddy Eynsford-Hill), Candida Benson (Clara Eynsford-Hill) and Stephanie Cole (Mrs Higgins). Directed by Philip Prowse, Pygmalion runs in the Festival Theatre from 9 July to 27 August 2010.

In other Chichester casting news, Kathryn Evans, Tim Flavin and Peter Polycarpou lead the casts of 42nd Street and Love Story respectively, while Sean Foley and Nicholas Le Prevost will star in a double-bill of Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s The Critic and Tom Stoppard’s The Real Inspector Hound (details below).

  • The premiere of musical adaptation Love Story, featuring music by Howard Goodall, a book by Stephen Clark and lyrics by Clark and Goodall will star: Peter Polycarpou (Phil), Emma Williams (Jenny), Michael Xavier (Oliver IV), Claire Carrie (Alice), Keiron Crook (Tony/Young Doctor), Rob Edwards (Oliver Barrett III), Lillie Flynn (Ensemble) and Jos Slovick (Ensemble). The musical is directed by Rachel Kavanaugh and runs in the Minerva Theatre from 29 May to 26 June 2010.

  • Paul Kerryson‘s revival of Harry Warren and Al Dubin’s classic Broadway musical 42nd Street (Festival Theatre, 1 July to 28 August 2010, previews from 21 June) will feature: Kathryn Evans (Dorothy Brock), Tim Flavin (Julian Marsh), Lauren Hall (Peggy Sawyer), Oliver Brenin (Billy Lawlor), Peter McCarthy (Oscar), Alan Burkitt (Andy Lee), Lisa Donmall (Ann Reilly), Steve Fortune (Abner Dillon), Steven Houghton (Pat Denning), Chris Howell (Bert Barry), Lucinda Lawrence (Gladys), David Lucas (Mac), Kate Nelson (Phyllis Dale), Louise Plowright (Maggie Jones), Pippa Raine (Lorraine Fleming), Helen Wei George (Ethel), Jason Winter, Karen Aspinall, Matthew Cheney, Matthew Malthouse, Jane Fowler, Luke Fetherston and Gary Wood.

  • Sean Foley and Nicholas Le Prevost will star in a double-bill of Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s The Critic and Tom Stoppard‘s The Real Inspector Hound (Minerva Theatre, 9 July to 28 August 2010), previews from 2 July), directed by Jonathan Church. Foley will double as Sir Fretful and Major Magnus while Le Prevost tackles Dangle and Birdboot.
  • Joining David Haig and Henry Goodman in the world premiere of Yes, Prime Minister, adapted for the stage by the writers of the original sitcom Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn (who also directs) will be: William Chubb (Jeremy Burnham), Sam Dastor (Ambassador), Emily Joyce (Claire), Jonathan Slinger (Bernard) and Tim Wallers (Simon Chester). The production runs in the Festival Theatre from 20 May to 5 June (previews from 13 May).
