It seems the brains behind Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake hope to do the same for musical theatre that Il Divo did for classical singing. A brief email to [email protected] could secure you an audition and perhaps even a place in Broadway4 – Sony BMG’s musical theatre answer to the Backstreet Boys and Westlife. Applicants are expected to be aged 20-35, vocally strong in a popularist style, with good looks and, as one might expect, a taste for histrionics. Simon Cowell formed Il Divo in 2001 as part of his international Il Divo Project. Since 2004 the group, which includes Spanish opera and zarzuela baritone Carlos Marín, tenors Urs Bühler and David Miller, and French pop singer Sébastien Izambard, has toured worldwide and sold 13 million copies of their three multilingual albums. They record in English, Italian, Spanish, French and Latin and have been likened to The Three Tenors with Armani model looks. Broadway4 auditions take place 1 May 2007 from 10am at Shalit Global, 7 Moor Street, Soho. The group's debut album is expected in autumn.
