Despite his disappointment with the Old Vic, producer Tom Kinninmont still hopes to mount a new run of Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell, Keith Waterhouse's play about the late Spectator writer and lifelong Soho drinker. He’s currently in talks with two other West End theatres about receiving the production for a limited season this summer. Ned Sherrin, who directed the play at the Old Vic in 1999, has agreed to helm it again, and Tom Conti, who took over from Peter O'Toole in the original 1989 production at the West End’s Apollo Theatre, has signed up to star. All going to plan, an announcement will be made next week.
