Photos: This year’s Oliviers shortlists in pictures
Nominations have been announced today (26 March 2013) for the 2013 Olivier Awards, winners of which will be announced at the Royal Opera House on Sunday 28 April.
Leading the way with eight nominations is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, closely followed by Top Hat with seven and Sweeney Todd with six. Here we take a look at some of the nominated shows that are currently running…
A CHORUS LINE
The revival of Marvin Hamlisch‘s musical is directed by Bob Avian, a co-choreographer of the original production. It has received two nominations, for Best Musical Revival as well as Leigh Zimmerman for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical.
THE AUDIENCE
Helen Mirren stars in Peter Morgan‘s play, imagining the meetings of the Queen with a series of Prime Ministers. Mirren is nominated for Best Actress, and the show has also garnered nominations for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Richard McCabe), MasterCard Best New Play, Best Costume Design and Best Director.
THE BODYGUARD
Heather Headley and Lloyd Owen star in the musical adaptation of the hit film. The show is nominated for Best New Musical, Best Set Design (Tim Hatley), as well as nominations for Headley and Debbie Kurup for Actress and Supporting Role respectively.
THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME
Simon Stephens‘ adaptation of Mark Haddon’s novel is the most highly nominated show this year. It has eight in total, including Best Actor (Luke Treadaway), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Nicola Walker), as well as Best New Play and nominations for Lighting Design, Set Design, Sound Design, Direction and Choreography.
THE JUDAS KISS
Rupert Everett and Freddie Fox star in the play telling the story of Oscar Wilde and his fall from grace. Everett is nominated for his performance as Wilde.
OLD TIMES
Kristin Scott Thomas and Lia Williams star in the revival of Harold Pinter’s play. Scott Thomas is nominated for Best Actress, and the production is also nominated for Best Revival.
THIS HOUSE
James Graham‘s play has transferred from the NT Cottesloe to the NT Olivier. It is nominated for Best New Play, and Best Director for Jeremy Herrin.
TOP HAT
The classic Hollywood film is brought to the stage in Matthew White‘s production. It is nominated for seven awards, including Best Actor & Actress in a Musical for Tom Chambers and Summer Strallen respectively, as well as Best New Musical. It has also been nominated for its Choreography, Set Design, Costume Design and Sound Design.
