Old Vic New Voices launches new initiatives for 2013

Old Vic New Voices (OVNV), the development department of the Old Vic, has announced its new season, which will see the launch of several new initiatives.

Among them is OVNV LAB, a dedicated space in Clapham where “ideas can be generated, work showcased and partnerships nurtured”. OVNV will also commission ten writers a year for two years to create new full-length works, monitored and mentored by industry professionals associated with the Old Vic. And a London-wide community company will connect “talented, diverse, outspoken individuals who want to make a difference in their community”.

Small Start Up funds will be offered to those at the developmental stage of a project, and given directly to the individual or company so they can ensure they have the best possible chance of developing an idea to inception. And, for the first time, writers over the age of 30 will be able to apply.

One major difference this season will be the lack of work in the Old Vic
Tunnels, which, as previously announced, is due to
close later this month.

Director of Old Vic New Voices Steve Winter said: “This year will be about theatrical match making. By offering space, money, commissions, mentoring and tickets we will be led rather than lead and hope that what comes out of the other end is authentic and needed.”
