National’s Curious Incident scoops South Bank Award

The National Theatre’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, which officially opens in the West End tonight, has won the Theatre prize at this year’s South Bank Sky Arts Awards.

The show, adapted by Simon Stephens from Mark Haddon’s bestselling novel, also won a Whatsonstage.com Award last month for Best New Play.

The winners of the 17th South Bank awards were announced at the Dorchester Hotel earlier today, with South Bank Show frontman Melvyn Bragg acting as master of ceremonies. 

Other winners included BBC series Parade’s End, Bond movie Skyfall and actress Julie Walters, who was presented with the outstanding achievement award by her longtime collaborator Victoria Wood.

The ceremony will be broadcast on Sky Arts on 14 March.
