Great Expectations posts closing notices at Vaudeville, 30 Mar

Great Expectations has posted closing notices at the Vaudeville Theatre for 30 March 2013, two and a half months ahead of its scheduled closing date of 15 June.

The production stars Jack Ellis (Coronation Street, Where the Heart Is, Bad Girls) as Jaggers, Chris Ellison (The Bill) as Magwitch, and Paul Nivison as Adult Pip, with Paula Wilcox (Emmerdale, The Smoking Room, Man About the House) as Miss Havisham.

Adapted for the stage by Scottish
playwright Jo Clifford, it’s directed and co-designed by Graham
McLaren
, an associate director for the National Theatre of Scotland.

It’s co-designed by Robin Peoples, with
lighting by Kai Fischer, original music by Simon Slater and sound by
Matt McKenzie. Giovanni Bedin for House of Worth created the
couture elements of the show, including Miss Havisham’s wedding dress.

The production, which arrived in the West End following a national tour, was broadcast to over 600 cinemas on 7 February to mark Charles Dickens’ birthday.

Bruce Athol MacKinnon, on behalf of producing company Beckman Unicorn, said: “It is with great sadness that Great Expectations has closed earlier than planned. The current financial climate has made producing independently in the commercial sector even harder despite our 90% audience approval rating.”
