Corrie musical Street of Dreams rescheduled for May
Coronation Street musical Street of Dreams, which was due to premiere at the Manchester Arena on Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 March 2012 has been rescheduled to May due to “the intricacy of scale involved in the staging of this world first production”, according to the promoter. The show will now debut on 9 and 10 May 2012.
Executive producer Kieran Roberts for ITV Studios and John Ward for Reckless Entertainment apologised in a statement for any inconvenience caused by the “unforeseen change”. Theatregoers unable to make the new performances are advised to contact their point of purchase.
Street of Dreams will make its debut in Manchester and is hosted by Paul O’Grady and also features stars of ‘the street’ past and present including Julie Goodyear, Kevin Kennedy,
Brian Capron, William Roache and Katy Cavanagh.
According to press material, “after more than fifty years on air, Britain’s best-loved soap has a glorious heritage of unforgettable stories and iconic characters which have been handpicked and now carefully crafted into this brilliant musical event by award-winning musical writer, composer and lyricist, Trisha Ward.”
BAFTA-winning film and stage director John Stephenson will direct the the show, which will feature a 25-piece orchestra, a “West End cast”, choreography by Olivier Award winners Stephen Mear and Karen Bruce and co-scripted by Damon Rochefort.
Paul O’Grady said: “I’m a great fan of the street, I’ve watched it for
most of my life. Chunks of script from 30 years ago are engraved in my memory so to relive it all alongside unforgettable characters and talent on the stage, revisiting such iconic scenes from across the years, is just brilliant. I can’t wait to watch it all come together and the
reaction it receives.”
Following Manchester, it will visit the O2, Dublin (18-19 May), Belfast’s Odyssey Arena (21-22 May) and Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena (29-30 May).
