WOS Radio: Williams, Fox & LaBute in Dark Q&A

Last night 250 Whatsonstage.com theatregoers enjoyed not only the world premiere of Neil LaBute’s latest offering In a Forest Dark and Deep starring Olivia Williams and Matthew Fox, but also an exclusive post-show Q&A (with all three!) to help us really get to grips with this psychological thriller.

Writer LaBute (who also directs) is well-known for his dark comedies and In a Forst Dark and Deep explores the complexities of sibling bonds and rivalry. Both comic and unsettling, the play once more proves LaBute’s ability to capture humour in the most harrowing of circumstances. Matthew Fox, best known as Jack Shepherd in television series Lost, makes his West End debut in the production and certainly choses a demanding role as the brother Bobby in this taut two-hander. Olivia Williams as his sister Betty also has her work cut out for her and both manage to captivate the audience presenting characters that aren’t immediately likeable but are still deeply compelling.

Following this intense production we were lucky enough to be joined by Fox, Williams and LaBute for a really interesting and amusing Q&A. LaBute argued that imploding relationships are more interesting than happy ones while Williams and Fox admitted that they’ve drawn from their experiences of real people to create their characters but wouldn’t give away any names. Williams and Fox also talked about how they choose their work and in LaBute’s case, how it chooses him. We even talked a little about promiscuity but you’ll have to listen to the podcast to learn more about that!
