When Lee Mead was announced last week to join the West End cast of Legally Blonde, the prospect of him appearing on-stage with his real-life wife Denise Van Outen, currently playing lovelorn hairdresser Paulette in the Whatsonstage.com and Olivier Award-winning musical, seemed too good to be true – and so it was. Publicists confirmed to Whatsonstage.com that the couple’s dates were unlikely to overlap, though they wouldn’t say who would be playing Paulette when Mead takes over from Alex Gaumond in mid-June. We now hear that Natalie Casey is in the frame for the role. Best known for her long-running role in TV’s Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, alongside Legally Blonde’s original Elle Woods Sheridan Smith in the early seasons, Casey’s musical credits include Oklahoma!, The Wedding Singer and, in the West End, Fame. She was most recently seen on stage in music hall comedy The Invisible Man at the Menier Chocolate Factory earlier this year.
