Roger Allam Plays Falstaff in Henry IV at Globe

Roger Allam, recently seen as Albin/Zaza in the Menier Chocolate Factory’s West End production of La Cage Aux Folles, will play Falstaff in Dominic Dromgoole’s productions of Henry IV Part 1 and 2 at Shakespeare’s Globe later this year, Whatsonstage.com can exclusively reveal.

Allam will feature alongside RSC and National Theatre veteran Oliver Cotton as Henry IV. They join, as previously announced (See News, 15 Feb 2010), original History Boy Jamie Parker  as Prince Hal, and William Gaunt as Worchester/Justice Shallow.

Henry IV Part 1 and 2, which run in rep from 6 June to 3 October 2010, will reunite director Dromgoole (who is tackling the plays for the first time) with designer Jonathan Fensom and composer Claire van Kampen, with whom he has previously worked on King Lear and Love’s Labour’s Lost.

As well as his work on La Cage Aux Folles, for which he was nominated for Best Takeover in a Role in this year’s Whatsonstage.com Awards, Roger Allam’s recent theatre work includes the UK tour of God of Carnage (2009), the National Theatre’s production of Afterlife (2008) and Boeing Boeing in the West End (2007). His television credits include The Thick of It and Spooks (BBC).

Oliver Cotton, who plays Henry IV, was recently seen on stage in Frank McGuinness’ Gates of Gold at the Manchester Library Theatre (2009), The Grapes of Wrath (Chichester Festival Theatre 2009), Piano Forte (Royal Court 2006) and The Royal Hunt for the Sun (National Theatre, 2006).

The cast is completed by: Christopher Godwin (Northumberland/Silence), Sean Kearns (Glendower/Bullcolt/Warwick), Paul Rider (Bardolf/Scroop) and Jade Williams (Lady Mortimer/Doll Tearsheet).
