Thriller Toyer Closes Early at Newly Reopened Arts

Toyer – the inaugural show at the recently refurbished Arts Theatre (See News, 28 Jan 2008) has announced it will close three weeks earlier than scheduled, on 21 March 2009.

The show, which had originally been booking through to 11 April, is a psychological thriller adapted by Gardner McKay from his 1998 novel of the same name. It opened on 25 February 2009 (previews from 16 February), the first production since a partnership between investment group Kingdom Entertainment and Wimpole Theatre took over the management of the venue.

Prior to Toyer‘s opening, the Arts had been dark since July 2008, when then director Martin Witts ended his lease. Former Carl Rosa Opera and Sound Theatre general manager Mig Kimpton is now in place as the venue’s director.

Toyer, which stars Al Weaver and Alice Krige, is directed by William Schoular and designed by Ruari Murchison. It’s produced at the Arts by Dodi M. Soames.

No further productions have yet been announced at the Arts.
