It’s not the first play about Wallis Simpson – in recent years, we’ve had HRH and A Dangerous Woman to name just two – but as another divorcee prepares to marry the heir to the throne, with potential consequences to the crown, it seems a timely one. In Lena Farugia’s new play, punningly titled Untitled, we find the Duchess of Windsor, for whom Edward VIII abdicated the throne, at her Paris home late in her life. The two-hander revolves around her and her manservant and is said to contain some factual revelations about members of the royal family. Directed by Peter Cregeen, it’s due to open at Malvern in September ahead of a short tour and anticipated London transfer.
